Origin

Crafted by the Hatter of Hearthmere and later altered by an artificer to hold an extradimensional hat store within it.

Background

The Hat of More Hats is less a weapon or relic than a professional necessity elevated into absurdity. The Hatter of Hearthmere created it because a serious milliner with four shops, traveling fittings, and wealthy clients cannot realistically carry every cap, veil, riding hat, mourning piece, work cap, ceremonial crown-frame, and seasonal fashion on an ordinary cart. So instead he wears his inventory.

To anyone watching, the effect is simple and deeply unsettling: the Hatter reaches beneath the brim of a perfectly ordinary top hat and draws out exactly the hat the moment requires. A dock cap for a ferryman. A funeral veil for a widow. A feathered absurdity for someone with more money than restraint. The performance is part stock management, part salesmanship, and part reputation. Much of his legend in Crownvale comes from people seeing him produce the impossible hat at exactly the right time.

The interior space does not create hats. It stores real ones — up to two thousand unique pieces of headwear, kept dry, clean, and somehow uncrushed in an extradimensional pocket linked to the Astral Plane. If the hat is ever destroyed, that entire collection is lost with it, which is one of the few thoughts capable of making the Hatter visibly pale.

Like other extradimensional containers, it is useful right up until someone gets stupid with it.
