Background

Trolls persist in the deep places of Aldenheim: mine shafts abandoned before memory, flooded underways beneath old keeps, volcanic caverns in Embercrag, and the long dark cuts beneath mountain roads in Frostmarch. They are less a people than a recurring problem, returning wherever damp stone, darkness, and something edible remain.

Most accounts agree on three things. Trolls are hard to kill, hard to starve, and far more patient than frightened travelers expect. A troll may haunt the same ruin for years, learning the sound of doors, the timing of patrols, and where wounded things try to hide.
