The Black Temple is the stark stone structure at the heart of Origin Isle, used during The Founding of Aldenheim as the site where the five realms were bound by oath. Public history holds that the ceremony took place there, the island was declared sacred afterward, and the temple was sealed. To public knowledge, it remains sealed still.
The building is a large square mass of black stone, windowless and severe, sitting in the rocky hills of Origin Isle like something that was not built to welcome anyone. It does not read as ordinary Crownvale masonry, nor like any practical structure of the bay. From the mainland it cannot really be seen. Only when someone has already crossed the island and come up through its ridges does the temple reveal itself, at which point it feels less discovered than confronted.
Its isolation does much of the work that soldiers otherwise would. The island is taboo, the temple is worse, and the combination has kept generations of people away more effectively than a garrison might have. That distance has allowed the Black Temple to become one of the most important structures in Aldenheim while also remaining one of the least directly witnessed.
Public Significance
The Black Temple stands at the symbolic center of Aldenheim's founding story. It is the place where the leaders of the five realms supposedly chose mutual obligation over pride and bound the future of the peninsula together. In public memory, it is not merely a historic site. It is a witness-stone for the idea that the realms do not get to survive separately.
