A sacred island everyone can see and almost no one is meant to touch.
A sacred island everyone can see and almost no one is meant to touch.

Origin Isle is the second largest island in the Chain Islands and the main island fully enclosed within Chain Bay. It is rocky and steep, with enough size to hold real interior ground rather than merely a single visible ridge: long wind-cut rises, sheltered folds in the hills, and cliff-lined approaches that disappear from view once you leave the shore behind. From the mainland coast it can look almost like a natural fortress. Up close, it feels less like a single landmark and more like a withheld landscape.
From its heights, the geography of Aldenheim can be read almost all at once. Frostmarch lies to the east, the Skyglass Range lifting straight out of the water. To the south, Crownvale opens toward the cultivated mainland, and the steam and smoke of Gildwater can sometimes be seen hanging in the bay. To the west, the coast of Embercrag stands darker and harsher, and on the clearest days the far peaks of The Crag are visible on the horizon. Between Crownvale and Embercrag, the line of the Noble Wall can be traced all the way to the water.
Origin Isle has been officially uninhabited since The Founding of Aldenheim. The public understanding is simple: the island became sacred ground after the oath at the Black Temple, and no realm was meant to settle, quarry, or claim it afterward. Whether people obey out of reverence, superstition, or fear varies by who you ask, but the result is the same. The island is left alone.
That absence has given the place its own reputation. Fishermen work around it rather than from it. Smugglers prefer easier ground. Pilgrims talk about it more often than they travel to it. Origin Isle sits in plain sight and still manages to feel withheld.
