Background

Tikka Draugt was one of the later great workshop minds associated with the Embercoil Compact. She did not found the Compact or the Steam Revolution, though workshop legend sometimes gives her more credit than history should. What she actually did was stranger and, in some ways, harder: she pushed established embercoil craft toward compact utility design, autonomous labor, and machines that could keep working when no one was there to turn the wheel by hand.

In the carved workshops and test chambers of The Crag, Tikka developed a reputation for looking at every machine and immediately seeing the smaller, tougher, more stubborn version hidden inside it. She favored practical mechanisms over ornament, field repairs over elegant theory, and results over deference. Pipefitters liked her because her designs could be maintained. Patrons disliked her because she had no patience for being told which problems were respectable enough to solve.

Her most personal work was not the engines that made her name, but the constructs she built for company and labor: O5, O6, and finally Orison-7, the most independent of them. She treated them less like servants than like arguments she intended to keep improving. Late in life, she vanished from her workshop without farewell, instructions, or any sign of obvious violence. Orison-7 waited for her return. It never came.

Tikka also served for a time as Embercrag's bearer of the Marching Maps of Aldenheim, though that part of her life is less widely remembered than her inventions. Before or around her disappearance, that responsibility passed to Brother Alaric. Ordinary histories do not explain exactly how.

Across Aldenheim, people still find Tikka in the margins: Compact tolerances that became standard, field notes copied without attribution, stubborn little mechanisms that still work after everyone expected them to fail, and old workshop hands who swear the modern age got quieter after she went missing.
