First created in Frostmarch as a personal way to carry the warmth of a cut Heat Stone through deep cold
Heat stone pendants are one of the simplest and most widespread adaptations of the larger Heat Stone. Instead of using a full fitted stone to warm a room, power a machine, or hold heat in a wall, a pendant houses only a small cut fragment in a wire cage, metal setting, or carved neck-frame. Worn close to the chest, it gives off enough steady warmth to matter to a single person without becoming bulky or dangerous.
The form is said to have been first developed in Frostmarch, where people needed a way to keep that narrow band of life-preserving warmth on them while traveling, working, or sleeping away from hearths. The stones themselves still come originally from Embercrag, but Frostmarch crafters turned them into something portable, practical, and deeply personal. Since then the idea has spread across all of Aldenheim. Travelers wear them beneath cloaks. Children and the elderly are often given them in hard seasons. Dockworkers, guards, scribes, and refugees all prize them when they can get one.
A heat stone pendant does not make someone comfortable in true deep cold, and it is no substitute for shelter, a proper fire, or a larger housed stone. What it does provide is steadiness. It keeps the chill from settling quite so quickly into the lungs and hands, and many people believe it helps stave off the first dangerous edge of Frost exposure. In the age of The Frost Corruption, that belief has only strengthened. Pendants are now worn as much for reassurance as for warmth, and in many places they seem to help slow the earliest stages of corruption-related cold effects in an individual wearer.
