The dark canopy has eyes
As the only way to get to the peninsula overland it gets many travelers through its mountain passes which are as welcoming as they are safe. The Green Hills is the mountain range that runs from north to south of the western border. The only well know way through the Green Hills is the windy pass on the Kings Road.
Part of Ember Isle is also part of Verdantweald. The hisotrical reason for this is still somewhat disputed but also just accepted. The small coastal city of Moonhallow is on the Isle.
