Background

Sylic was raised in Thawwatch, where people learned to measure danger by what stopped growing first. He remembers pasture moss whitening overnight, root cellars going quiet, and neighbors insisting they had simply misplaced the names of people they had known for years. Long before the rest of Aldenheim named it, Sylic understood that something in Frostmarch was not only cold, but wrong.

As a very young scholar, he spent part of his early career attached to the research circles of the Embercoil Compact, cataloguing material failures, pressure anomalies, and strange thermal behavior in old coil records. That education taught him two habits he never lost: treat every breakdown as a pattern, and never assume a machine has told you its whole truth. His scholarship eventually carried him south to The Collegium Arcanum, where he became Keeper of the Underhall Archives and one of the few academics willing to study The Frost Corruption as a living magical pattern rather than a northern superstition. He knew the Lost Guide before the Watcher disappeared and believes that disappearance was tied to a discovery the realm was not ready to hear. Most of Sylic's public work is careful, cautious, and deniable. His private notes are not.
